Several treatment breakthroughs were discussed during an annual summit in Chicago that demonstrated data on potential weight loss advantages. A clinical trial showed the first results against cancer in 10 years. There was a treatment developed by the American start-up Revolution Medicines that involves a new molecule called daraxonrasib. This study showed greater efficacy than chemotherapy treatment. Half of the patients survived more than 13 months through this mode of treatment. These medications were initially used to treat diabetes but have offered benefits for cardiovascular disease. American patients who have diabetes and obesity and are taking these medicines.
US scientists have considered that these drugs may prevent cancer from progressing from an early cancer stage to a metastatic one. This demonstrated a 50 percent decrease in disease progression across liver, breast, lung and colorectal cancer in patients consuming GLP-1 agonist medicine. Mark Orland said that this data still needs confirmation through randomized clinical trials.According to a study, this new study has the potential to transform management of patients who have genetic mutations that have a higher chance of developing aggressive disease.
Scientists tested a combination of treatments in patients: the enzalutamide drug blocks the hormonal signals, and talazoparib short-circuits the DNA repair mechanism within the cancer cells. Also, in studies conducted for BRCA2 gene mutation, which is among the aggressive forms of disease, the addition of talazopraib medicine decreased the tumor risk. According to French-Moroccan professor Karim Fizazi, these are exceptional results.
